About Goodyear
Located close to the Estrella Montains in Maricopa County, Arizona, the city of Goodyear is only 20 minutes away from downtown Phoenix. A small but lovely city, Goodyear offers its residents and visitors from all over the world splendid views, an oasis of peace and calm, as well as all the amenities of a large city.
The name of the city comes from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. In 1917 Paul Litchfield bought 16,000 acres of land in order to grow cotton used to make rubber tires. The community here was first named Egypt and later Goodyear. 58,000 people are proud to call Goodyear their home. Covering an area of 116.5 square miles, Goodyear is on of the cities with the most rapid development in Arizona. In 1980 the city counted only 2,747 residents, 6,258 residents 10 years later and 58,000 in 2008.
Goodyear is a perfect destination both for art lovers, as it offers an opera, a theater and a symphony hall, and for those who enjoy sports. The city of Goodyear invites you to watch great games of hockey, football, baseball and basketball. Or if you prefer golf, you may try one of Goodyear's twelve large golf courses. Do you feel like going for a swim? The Aquatics and Recreation Division invites you to Loma Linda Park where you can relax in the Goodyear Swimming Pool.
Goodyear's residents and visitors love hiking and biking and why wouldn't they? After all, in Goodyear you'll discover no less than 39 miles of mountain paths and 100 miles of bike trails. The city of Goodyear is easily accessible due to the Phoenix-Goodyear Airport and to the Loop 101 and I-10 freeways. A new freeway called Loop 303 will very soon cross the city. If you prefer traveling by train, Goodyear also has a railroad line. So start packing because Goodyear is ready to welcome you.
